Comments about Jayson:

“Jayson is an unusually powerful facilitator and coach. He has the rare combination of a big heart, a sharply trained mind, and a generous spirit. I have watched Jayson with awe and appreciation as he has worked with both groups and individuals in a beautifully skilled fashion. He has the ability to lead a room, to inspire the best in others, and to spark positive change in the midst of chaos. I enthusiastically endorse his work.”

Jayson Gaddis has what I call the “hawk eye”. It’s his ability to see through the noise and BS of our lives into what really matters. Jayson also possesses a beautiful heart and tact for delivering potent feedback that inspires one to make brave, transformative changes. I’m one of those people he continues to inspire.

“I am struck by Jayson’s combination of integrity, wisdom, and compassion, and highly recommend him to anyone who wants to take their life to the next level. He has that rare balance of experience and skill, as well as a deep sense of intuition, which serves people in empowering them to move forward in their lives, where ever they may have been stuck previously.”

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Jayson for over 10 years. He is a master facilitator and one of the most talented individuals I know in helping individuals get to what matters most. Jayson always creates a safe space where learning can occur – that combined with his finely tuned instincts – ensures depth and breadth in growth. I have never seen an individual be able to combine his own passion of the outdoors, people, and the things that matter most, more than Jay. He is a deeply caring individual who inspires those around him to be intentional about who and why they are. Jayson helps people move from “talking? to “being? – and that is a rare skill. He’s the kind of guy I wish could impact, shape, and develop more young leaders of tomorrow – the world will be a better place because of his influence.”

“All I can say is awesome.”
—Ryan Lowe

“I got a lot from this trip because I allowed myself to work through some issues and I hope to bring that back with me.”
–Jordan Perkins

“As humans we want to believe
we can somehow change or affect everything
God seems to allow us enough rope
To hang ourselves in that regard

Bring back that sun
A thunderhead approaches
Eager to cleanse this land.

In the eye of the storm.”

–Jordan Perkins

“The 2006 Chi Phi Wilderness Academy was on of the best experiences of my life….I had a lot of personal growth that really has made an impact on my life.”
–James Nelson

“Wilderness Academy is nothing like any other leadership porgram around. With focus on learning about understanding yoruself, on knowing what it means to be a man, W.A, presents a point of view no program around brings to the stage.”
–Jake Campbell

“The Chi Phi Wilderness Academy, a partnership between the Chi Phi Fraternity and Innernature, was among the most influential experiences in my life. Both I and the students whom I mentored grew tremendously as Brothers and as men. It pushed me to grow and learn as a truly educational, spiritual, and fraternal journey.?
Richard D. Kuerston
Director of Membership Development, Chi Phi Fraternity.

“The team at Innernature worked hard to customize an outdoor adventure program to fit the needs of our organization. They took the time to get to know our audience and then launch a summer program that received the highest reviews from the participants.?
Brian Tenclinger, M.S.Ed.
Director of Undergraduate Services
Chi Phi Fraternity

“I realized a lot about how I want to live my life differently in the future, and about how I can apply our Ritual to real life. I feel blessed to have met the nine brothers I have as well as our three guides. Life is good, the trip was bomber! Glad to have been here, an experience I will never forget.?
— Drew Crisan, Michigan ’06

“This has been by far my greatest Beta moment ever in my life. To come together with 12 strangers and open up to them because we are all brothers is an amazing experience. The way we have bonded together in these six days has proven that being a Beta is much more than a place to live at college. I feel so fortunate to have had this opportunity to go as a freshman and teach my chapter all I have learned with ritual, songs and life in general. I hope to continue making good men better in the name of Beta Theta Pi.?
—Tim Freeburg, Washington State ’08

“We worked together as a small, family-tight chapter to navigate our hikes, set up our campsites and prepare all of our food. On the third day, we spent 24 hours in solitude, relaxing and reflecting on key issues in our lives. In addition, several of the brothers and I held a 36-hour fast, starting the night before and lasting throughout the 24-hour solo journey. Whether we were learning about our own values, the values of our brothers, survival skills or the sacred Ritual of our Fraternity, one common feature of every task we performed or discussion in which we shared is that these lessons will last a lifetime.?
— Adam Hill, Saint Louis ’05

“Beta Wilderness Challenge! What can I say? It was a challenge for sure with the snow, storms, river crossings, solo experience and intense climbing. I was able to truly understand what Beta is about by spending time with 12 amazing men and studying our sacred Ritual.?
— Michael Waters, John Hopkins ’06

“I have a new appreciation for God’s creation and beauty. Moments like this made BWC an experience of a lifetime. The Ritual discussions and personal revelations make BWC much more than just a camping trip. I loved getting to know all of the Betas who came from all over the country; I was really blessed to be able to come.?
— Philip Ficken, Oklahoma State ’07

“We’ve hiked eight miles with 60-pound backpacks, climbed two mountain passes, embarked on a 24-hour solo journey and fast (well, most fasted) and on the last day we rappelled a mountain. We hiked six miles to our final wilderness destination. I never imagined experiencing such an adventure in one week, and at the same time I’ve noticed a greater strength within myself.?
— Andrew Westlund, Washington in St. Louis ’07

“I’ve learned more about myself in this past week than I have the last 20 years. I would recommend this trip to any Beta. I will remember my trip and the experience I had for a long time to come.?
— Harrison Trammell, Clemson ’06

“The Beta Wilderness Challenge opened me up to many things: overcoming fears, learning about myself and brotherhood. To me, brotherhood is essential to our successes. Never before have I felt such a bond between relative strangers. Brotherhood shines brighter than the diamond on our badges. The hiking itself allowed me to push my body to the limits and explore facets of myself that I never took time before to find out. We did everything as a team and never got down on someone who was slower than the rest of us. After hiking, my eyes were opened to new notions of Beta Ritual. In all, this has been one of the most amazing and beneficial trips I have ever had the opportunity to partake. I have never been more proud or honored to be a Beta.?
— Brett A. Dobinsky, Colorado St. ’07

Coaching can be a great way to address one’s life purpose and what keeps us from living the life we want. Coaching can help with a variety of life’s struggles and taken far enough eventually leads one to their core issues where the root of the issue can be addressed. We specialize in coaching men who are believe there is more to life than their 9-5 job and mediocre relationships. If you are interested in getting real with your life, please email us at jay@innernature.org for a free 30 min coaching session over the phone or in person.

Counseling

innernature specializes in work with personal growth, addiction, trauma, relationships, depression, anxiety, social inhibitions, loss, and spiritual issues. We work with individuals, families, couples and groups.

Counseling can be experienced in offices in Boulder or during a wilderness retreat. It is important for you to chose what is best for you during this time in your life. What kind of support do you need? Is this something you want to do alone? With family? A group? Do you need to be challenged? Do you simply want to discover your life’s purpose? Are you taking responsibility for your life? What keeps you motivated? Stuck? Do you have others in your life that can support you? innernature believes it is important for you to have choices and experiment with what works for you. We are willing and capable of going to the depths of your being with you if you so desire, and at a pace that is right for you.

transitional services:
When a young person transitions from programs such as wilderness therapy, residential treatment progams, intensive outpatient programs, and boarding schools they often feel isolated and alone because although they have changed and grown a great deal, their old home enviornment, friends and family have not. We assist this transition by offering group support, individual and family therapy, and wilderness retreats.

Teen Aftercare Group

For young adults coming out of wilderness therapy programs, residential treatment centers, and boarding schools

The transition from boarding schools, emotional growth programs, wilderness therapy and residential treatment centers to the home environment can be very difficult. Many of your friends and family members have not learned new coping skills. This group will consist of peers that have been through similar experiences and are learning how to stay true to themselves in the midst of many temptations, risks, and challenges of the “old neighborhood. The group will often meet outside the office setting and engage in activities throughout the Bouler area.
Our Founder

jayson gaddis, MA, CGT, LPC, founder, director

Born and raised in Utah, Jayson has lived in Colorado since 2002.
Currently, Jayson is coach and psychotherapist in Boulder, Colorado. He is a facilitator with the Authentic Man Program and is a certified meditation instructor. Since 2001 he has created and led over 15 wilderness rites-of-passage trips with men. He currently co-leads a teen support group. He works with individual clients over the phone and in his office in Boulder.
Jayson received his BA from the University of Utah in Environmental Geography in 1995. He received his master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology and Counseling from Naropa University in May 2005. He is a certified Gestalt therapist and has his Level 1 EMDR certification. Jayson has worked in a variety of therapeutic and milieu settings that have influenced his approach to working with people.

From 2005-06 Jayson was a family therapist at the Monarch Center for Family Healing in Georgetown Colorado where he worked with adolescents in the field and led half-day and day-long family intensives. He also ran many groups in the field and supported and trained staff in therapeutic interventions with students.

Prior to this position Jayson worked for Boulder County Mental Health for three years. Two of these years were spent working for the emergency crisis team. During this time, Jayson became adept at diagnosing and working with a variety of clients with mild to severe mental illness. Much of this work involved traveling to local hospitals, jails, senior centers and residential treatment facilities, assessing, diagnosing and making recommendations for placement. The third year he served as a child and family therapist. Jayson worked with kids aged 4-18. He also ran several groups including one with perpetrators of domestic violence, a youth Hispanic group, an anger awareness group and a middle school boys group. Jayson currently runs a therapeutic group at the Family Wellness Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

Jayson has worked with adolescents since 1992 with a focus on at-risk youth. He spent three years working with teens for Outward Bound in Maine. There he worked with teenagers, adults, Vietnam veterans, and corporate clients. He helped start the Mexico Outward Bound School. He was a field staff with Second Nature Wilderness Program in Utah. Jayson ran the outdoor education program at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah. Over the years he received certifications to teach rock climbing, back-packing, trail-building, wilderness first aid, and nature skills to participants. Seasonally, he coached ski racing and ran the developmental ski team at Snowbird Utah for four years. Jayson worked for the National Ability Center in Park City Utah whose mission is to serve the developmentally disabled population.

Jayson believes that in order to become fully who we are, we must be willing to take an honest look at ourselves in the mirror and take responsibility for our life. He does this in his own life through therapy, his men’s group, wilderness work and spiritual practice. Since meditatioin is the center of his life, Jayson leaves on retreat twice a year for one month in the summer and 2-3 weeks in the winter.
Jayson is proficient in Spanish and is a certified wilderness first responder.

He was a lead therapist and field supervisor at SUWS, a wilderness therapy program intervening with at-risk youth and their families. He has also worked as a massage therapist and is currently a Yoga Instructor.

The therapeutic relationship is an encounter of unlimited potential that includes growth, challenge, risk, healing, transformation, connection, love, and support. It is an avenue to explore and experiment with freeing internal dynamics that are controlled, manufactured, limited, and pushed away. Keith utilizes many different approaches when facilitating this process.
Keith’s approach to therapy has been heavily influenced by his training, work, and life experience. He uses gestalt, existential, body centered, psychodynamic, cognitive, relational, and contemplative interventions. He strongly believes that the client must discover their own innate healing potential in order to bring advances from therapy into everyday living. He can be very direct when necessary, as well as caring, nurturing, and supportive. Keith works well with teenagers, adults, couples, and families. He has focused on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, social inhibitions, drug abuse, loss, mood fluctuation, relationship, adolescence, sexuality, and spiritual crisis and growth.

Men’s retreats

Since 2001 innernature has been leading wilderness rite-of-passage trips. These trips have been designed to help people determine their life purpose and mark a transition. We work with teens, recovery centers, families, oranizations, fraternity men, sorority women, and other specific groups.

At innernature we see tremendous value in working with individuals in the context of a group. Group work allows participants to receive feedback about how others are experiencing them. The daily behavior in our lives is often rooted in roles and dynamics we learned in our families when we were young. These roles and dynamics can become ingrained, leading us to express ourselves and relate to others in habitual and constricted ways. Feedback from group members can help us become aware of our habits and constrictions. And awareness, in turn, opens the door to choice, expansion, and creativity.

Family retreats

How often do you and your family get outside and really connect? Are there conflicts that are too much to deal with at home? We want to support you and your family in exploring connection away from all the distractions of home. We believe in a systems approach that it is never just one person in the family—that in order to heal and move past our stuck places, let’s discover what is happening in the system.

Father and Son retreats

When was the last time you and your dad or you and your son did something special together? Our culture seems mainly to encourage relatively superficial contact between fathers and sons. Our weekend retreats give fathers and sons the opportunity to find more intimate and satisfying ways to connect with each other

Individual retreats

Spending time alone in the wilderness can be an invaluable way of becoming aware of who you really are. Our individual retreats can be as short as one overnight or as long as a week. No matter the length, all are facilitated by a trained psychotherapist. Options include receiving intensive therapy and designing your own rite-of-passage that we would then facilitate for you.

Groups
